Learn all about CentralPay direct debit payments

SEPA is the European Union's initiative to simplify and harmonize bank transfer payments, direct debits and credit card payments in euros within the 30 member countries of the European Economic Area.

Among the SEPA payment method, SDD (SEPA Direct Debit) is the direct debit system that enables creditors to collect payments from their debtors in accordance with SEPA rules. A SEPA direct debit payment and an SDD payment therefore correspond to the same service.

A distinction is made between SDD Core and SDD B2B:

  • SEPA Core, the traditional direct debit, involves signing a mandate and transmitting your bank details to your creditor (IBAN and BIC), who then operate the direct debit.
  • SEPA B2B is mainly used by public institutions or companies to debit other companies, as they are not contestable.

SDD payment offers several advantages:

  • Seller-initiated: Once the mandate has been created, it requires only authorization from the customer to execute direct debits.
  • Low cost: Significantly less expensive than card-based direct debit, especially business cards.
  • No credit limit: It is not subject to the same limit and expiration problems as credit cards.
  • Optimized processes: It improves and accelerates customer relationship management and debt collection.

A customer has 13 months from the date the account is debited to contest a direct debit payment. In this case, the merchant will have to pay a fee of up to €20 to cover those charged by CentralPay's bank for each refused transaction.
